Forward Victor Boniface from Bayer Leverkusen sustained an injury while with the Nigerian national team, ruling him out of participation in the African Cup of Nations.

Renowned football journalist Fabrizio Romano confirms that the forward suffered a muscular injury while on international duty, and he is set to undergo surgery in the coming days. Preliminary information suggests Boniface could spend up to two months in recovery.

The Nigerian national team's coaching staff will soon decide on a replacement for Bayer's forward.

Boniface has been one of the standout players in this Bundesliga season, tallying 10 goals in 16 matches for Bayer Leverkusen. The 23-year-old Nigerian striker has scored a total of 16 goals across all competitions.

Nigeria is set to compete in the African Cup of Nations in a group alongside Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau. The national team will commence its tournament journey on January 14th against Equatorial Guinea.
