Today, Bayer Leverkusen has etched its name permanently in the annals of European football history. Under the leadership of Xabi Alonso, the team crushed Werder Bremen (5-0) and clinched the German championship for the first time ever.

However, that's not the only achievement for Bayer today. The Leverkusen side extended their unbeaten streak this season to 43 matches across all competitions. This achievement equals the record for the most matches without defeat among clubs in the top five leagues, a record previously held by Juventus.

Juventus set their record from May 2011 to May 2012.

If Bayer Leverkusen doesn't lose to West Ham United in the second leg of the Europa League quarter-finals next Thursday, they will become the undisputed record holder. The first leg in Leverkusen ended in a 2-0 victory for the "Pharmacists."

In the upcoming Bundesliga match, Bayer will face Borussia Dortmund, although this match won't hold any significance in the standings for Xabi Alonso's team.
