The Press Service of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled the names of three nominees for the title of the continent's best goalkeeper at the conclusion of the departing year of 2023.

The final trio of contenders includes Manchester United's goalkeeper Andre Onana, Moroccan shot-stopper Yassine Bounou from Al-Hilal, and Mohamed El-Shenawy, guarding the goal for Egypt's Al-Ahly. The award ceremony is scheduled for December 11th.

Onana has been playing for Man United since July. The Cameroon national team goalkeeper spent the first half of the year with Inter Milan, winning both the Italian Cup and Supercup. Moroccan Bounou spent part of 2023 at Sevilla. The goalkeeper contributed to Sevilla's victory in the Europa League. The 34-year-old El-Shenawy was a champion in the African Champions League, as well as in the Egyptian league and Super Cup.

It's worth noting that 27-year-old Onana hasn't been displaying the same level of performance since his move to the Premier League. Criticism has been directed at his gameplay, and it's fair to acknowledge that it's often warranted.

Earlier reports indicated that Manchester United is ready to acquire competition for the Cameroonian, with Onana even considering skipping the 2023 African Cup of Nations for fear of losing his place in the squad.
