Five years ago, on March 5, 2019, the second-leg match between Real Madrid and Ajax took place at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium.

In the first leg, which took place on February 13 in Amsterdam, the "Los Blancos" team won with a score of 2-1. Karim Benzema opened the scoring for Madrid in the 60th minute. Fifteen minutes later, Ajax equalized thanks to a goal from Hakim Ziyech. However, at the end of the match, Marco Asensio secured victory for Real Madrid in the 87th minute.

Two weeks later, on March 5, the second-leg match was held at the Santiago Bernabéu stadium. It's worth noting that in 2019, the away goals rule still applied in the Champions League. To advance to the quarter-finals, Ajax needed to score at least two goals in the second-leg match. In Madrid, in the 7th minute of the game, Hakim Ziyech put Ajax ahead, and 11 minutes later, David Neres doubled the advantage, tilting the scales in favor of the Dutch team.

In the second half, Ajax continued to perform impressively. In the 62nd minute, Dušan Tadić scored the third goal of the match. Real responded to this goal eight minutes later through Asensio's effort. Just two minutes later, in the 72nd minute, Lasse Schöne scored the fourth goal, sealing the result of the match.

Ajax defeated Real Madrid with a score of 4-1 in the second-leg match and 5-3 on aggregate. In that UEFA Champions League campaign, Ajax reached the semi-finals but was eliminated by Tottenham.
