Olympic champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen sues father over allegations of domestic violence
Renowned Norwegian track and field athlete Jakob Ingebrigtsen has filed a lawsuit against his father, Gjert Ingebrigtsen, accusing him of domestic violence during his childhood, Bild reports.
Jakob’s older brothers, Henrik and Filip, who are also accomplished athletes, have joined him in making similar accusations against their father.
“We grew up with a father who was very aggressive and controlling, using physical violence and threats as part of his parenting. We still feel the discomfort and fear that accompanied us throughout our childhood,” the brothers stated in an interview with Norwegian newspaper Verdens Gang.
Gjert Ingebrigtsen served as their coach for most of their careers, starting from a young age. It was not until 2022 that the brothers decided to end their professional relationship with him. In April 2024, they took legal action, and the court hearing is expected to be scheduled next year.
Gjert, through his lawyer, has denied all accusations, claiming he never used violence against his sons.
Jakob Ingebrigtsen is a two-time Olympic champion, having won gold in the 1500m in Tokyo 2021 and the 5000m in Paris 2024.
