Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk has long since written himself into the history of world boxing, becoming the first absolute world heavyweight champion in 25 years. The Dailysports team has prepared a profile of the famous Ukrainian for you.

For more than ten years of his professional career, Usyk remains undefeated. In 22 fights, the last of which was the fight for the title of absolute world champion against Tyson Fury in May 2024, he won all 22 fights, 14 of them by knockout. Not a single draw!

The boxer himself notes that he had a love for football since childhood, but then he decided to do boxing. He returned to his childhood hobby recently, when in the winter of 2022 he played for the Ukrainian team Polissia in a friendly tournament. He is still associated with this team now and Usyk's dream is to play against Dynamo Kyiv, but so far he can't realise it.

Oleksandr Usyk has long been entering the ring to the song ‘Brattya’, which was written by the Ukrainian singer of Roma nationality Vasyl Zhadan. It is noteworthy that the latter baptised the children of the famous boxer.

Enough Ukrainian enriched the victory over Fury. Different sources lead different figures, but they approximately converge on the mark of 50-55 million dollars, becoming the highest-paid athlete in Ukraine. The boxer himself denies this figure, but stated that he is ready to strive for it.

On 25 September 2024 will be 15 years, as Usyk is in marriage with his wife Ekaterina. During this time, the couple has managed to raise four children: Elyzaveta, Mykhailo, Kyrylo and Mariia.

Oleksandr Usyk: belts
During his career, Usyk managed to reach heights in amateur boxing, winning gold at the 2012 Olympics, and at the professional level. Thus, the Ukrainian became the absolute world champion in both cruiserweight and heavyweight divisions. Now he does not own all the belts in the heavyweight division, as he did not hold the IBF title defence in time, and the belt had to be vacated.
Oleksandr Usyk: detention in Poland
On the evening of 17 September 2024, Usyk was detained at the airport in Krakow, Poland. The exact reasons are not disclosed, but the Ukrainian assures that everything is within the law and even thanked the Polish law enforcers for their professional work.
