Esther Okoronkwo once again proved crucial for AFC Toronto, scoring the winner in a thrilling 3–2 victory over Kansas City Current at the World Sevens Football tournament in Fort Lauderdale. The Nigerian forward, who also netted in their opening match, now has two goals in three games.

Kansas City took an early lead through Alexandra Pfeiffer, but Toronto responded quickly. Kaylee Hunter equalised in the eighth minute from an Okoronkwo assist before firing a long-range strike to make it 2–1. Pfeiffer later levelled the match at 2–2 as the game swung end to end.

Okoronkwo briefly thought she had scored again, but the effort was ruled out after the assistant referee said the ball had gone out of play. Moments later, in the 29th minute, Hunter delivered a low cross and Okoronkwo timed her run perfectly to tap in the decisive goal.

Toronto sealed their first win but still exited the tournament after finishing with just one victory.
