A new era has officially begun for the Turkish national team.

Details: The Turkish Football Federation has officially confirmed Sergen Yalcin as the new head coach of the national team. The decision was approved at the TFF Board of Directors meeting on October 20, with the federation announcing that a four-year agreement will be signed with the 53-year-old coach and his staff.

Yalcin succeeds Vincenzo Montella, whose spell with Turkey came to an end earlier in October following a difficult run of results in the UEFA Nations League. The federation has now turned to a coach who knows Turkish football inside out, both from his long playing career and his work on the touchline.

The Istanbul-born specialist previously managed a number of Turkish clubs and enjoyed his biggest coaching success with Besiktas. In the 2020/21 campaign, he guided the Black Eagles to a domestic double, winning both the Turkish league title and the Turkish Cup.

It is worth noting that Yalcin also has a significant history with the national team as a player. The former attacking midfielder won 37 caps for Turkey between 1994 and 2003 and represented his country at both Euro 1996 and Euro 2000.
