Official: Senegalese defender Mamadou Sarr joins Real Sociedad on loan

The Senegalese international will play in La Liga during the 2026–2027 season.

As expected, Mamadou Sarr will play for Real Sociedad this season. The Spanish club confirmed the arrival of the 20-year-old Senegalese player on Friday 28 August after he successfully passed his medical.

Mamadou Sarr has joined Real Sociedad on a season-long loan from Chelsea. Having struggled for playing time with the Blues, the 20-year-old centre-back hopes to feature regularly this season with the Spanish club.

Since returning from his loan spell at Strasbourg last summer, Mamadou Sarr has made seven appearances for Chelsea. However, the Senegal international took part in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco with Senegal’s Lions of Teranga, as well as in the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which was co-hosted by the United States, Canada and Mexico this summer.
