The English Football Association has officially announced disciplinary action against Tottenham midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur.
Details: In June 2024, the Uruguayan midfielder made a controversial joke about his teammate Son Heung-min during an interview. When a journalist asked Bentancur if he could give away Son's jersey, Rodrigo replied: "Sonny’s? Or maybe his cousin's? They all look almost the same, don’t they?"
The player quickly apologized to Son for the remark, but the Football Association still took action. Following an investigation, the organization announced a seven-match suspension and a fine of £100,000 for Bentancur.
Background: Tottenham is working to retain their star Son Heung-min and has already initiated the process to activate the contract extension clause for the Korean forward. Son, for his part, plans to stay at Tottenham for at least one more season.
