Official: Real Madrid accuse LaLiga of attacking the club
Real Madrid have launched a direct attack on LaLiga president Javier Tebas, accusing him of repeatedly targeting the club and questioning his ability to lead Spanish football.
Details: Following Tebas's latest public comments, Real Madrid issued an official statement criticizing his conduct and calling for a change in the leadership of Spanish professional football.
The club's full statement reads:
“Our club considers it intolerable that the president of LaLiga uses his institutional position to continue discrediting and attacking Real Madrid in the manner he does in each of his public interventions. It is also very concerning that someone who is responsible for representing and protecting the interests of all LaLiga clubs is repeatedly obsessed with targeting Real Madrid, turning our club into a constant subject of his public attacks.
His latest remarks are particularly serious and incomprehensible, unbecoming of a responsible manager, as they are made in response to an article by an independent journalist in a digital media outlet. However, he reacts against our club and goes as far as to comment on our sporting strategy, which is entirely inappropriate and irresponsible.
It is utterly surprising that the president of LaLiga dedicates his time and personal platforms to constantly trying to publicly discredit Real Madrid, instead of contributing, from the responsibility of his position, to fostering trust in the institutions that must ensure the impartiality of the competition. By doing so, he continues to damage the image of our competition and Spanish football worldwide.
Given this inappropriate behavior, which has persisted over time, we believe that professional football in Spain urgently needs a leader capable of managing it and developing its full potential with the fundamental duty of neutrality. It needs someone who understands the nature of their role, as the president of LaLiga is not the owner of the competition but a manager serving the clubs that comprise it and entrust him with its direction. The clubs need someone who serves this mission with honesty.”
It is worth noting that the latest dispute comes after Real Madrid's 2-1 defeat to Atlético Madrid on September 20. The Madrid club had previously published an official statement criticizing the refereeing decisions made during the derby.
