Legendary Mauricio Pochettino didn't stay unemployed for long after his unexpected departure from Chelsea.
Details: Today, Pochettino was officially announced as the new head coach of the United States national team. The Argentine signed a contract with the U.S. Soccer Federation until the summer of 2026.
Pochettino explained his decision to take charge of the U.S. national team as follows:
“The decision to join USMNT wasn’t just about football for me; it’s about the journey that this team and this country are on. The energy, the passion, and the hunger to achieve something truly historic here – those are the things that inspired me”.
Reminder: The U.S. is one of the three host nations for the 2026 World Cup, co-hosting the tournament with Canada and Mexico. This will be the first time in history that the World Cup is held in three countries simultaneously.
At the 2022 World Cup, the U.S. team reached the Round of 16 but was eliminated by the Netherlands with a 1-3 loss.
Pochettino is well-known in Europe for his stints at Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, PSG, Southampton, and Espanyol.
Earlier, the option of a robot in the US national team was abandoned by Jurgen Klopp.
