A new chapter begins for this player as he seeks to reclaim regular first-team action.

Details: Manchester City have officially announced that 30-year-old English midfielder Kalvin Phillips has rejoined Sheffield United. The player will be at Bramall Lane on a season-long loan for the 2026/27 campaign. This marks Phillips' second stint with the Blades.

Phillips first joined Sheffield United in February 2026, also arriving on loan from Manchester City. However, that spell was cut short after just three appearances due to a knee injury that sidelined him for the remainder of the season. Now, the club has decided to offer the Englishman another opportunity, bringing him back for a full campaign.

The main part of Phillips' career is closely tied to Leeds. Over eight seasons with his boyhood club’s first team, the midfielder made 234 appearances across all competitions, scoring 14 goals and providing 14 assists. In the summer of 2022, Manchester City signed Phillips, who at that time was regarded as one of England’s top defensive midfielders.

However, he was unable to cement a regular spot at Manchester City. Phillips made just 32 appearances for the club, scoring once—against Crvena Zvezda in the Champions League. In his debut season, he featured in 21 matches for a team that clinched the treble, lifting the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League trophies.

After losing his place in the squad, a series of loan spells followed. In the second half of the 2023/24 season, the Englishman played for West Ham, featuring in 10 matches across all competitions. During the 2024/25 campaign, he represented Ipswich—making 22 appearances and scoring once. That was followed by his first loan at Sheffield United, where injury limited him to just three matches.

On the international stage, Phillips has earned 31 caps for England and scored one goal. His most recent appearance for the national team came back in November 2023.

It’s worth noting that Transfermarkt currently values Kalvin Phillips at €2.5 million. For comparison, at the peak of his career, the English midfielder’s value soared as high as €50 million.
