Official: Javier Aguirre takes charge of Valencia

Spanish side Valencia have officially announced the appointment of Mexican coach Javier Aguirre as the new head coach of the first team.

Details: The Levantine club's board has reached an agreement with the 67-year-old Mexican coach, signing him to a one-season contract with the option to extend it for another year if certain sporting objectives are achieved. Aguirre himself will arrive in Valencia on Thursday, September 24, after which he will lead his first training session with the team and be presented to the media at Mestalla.

Aguirre will be joined by his trusted coaching staff. In particular, assistant coach Toni Amor and fitness coach Pol Lorente will arrive at the Bats' training base today to begin familiarizing themselves with the squad and the training process.

Aguirre's most recent job was with the Mexico national team, which he led at the 2026 World Cup and guided to the round of 16. This marks another return to Spain's La Liga for the coach, who has previously managed Osasuna, Atlético Madrid, Zaragoza, Espanyol, Leganés and Mallorca with success.
