The Italian Football Federation has officially confirmed the appointment of Gennaro Gattuso as the new head coach of the national team.
The former Italy midfielder takes over the reins from Luciano Spalletti, who decided to step down following a humiliating 0-3 defeat to Norway in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers. Despite that setback, Spalletti managed the team for one more match—a 2-0 victory over Moldova.
Gattuso’s official presentation as the new Azzurri boss is scheduled for June 19 and will take place at the Parco dei Principi hotel in Rome.
This will be the 46-year-old manager’s first experience at the helm of a national team. Previously, Gattuso coached clubs such as Milan, Napoli, Valencia, Marseille, Hajduk, and others.
