Official: Efraín Álvarez signs with Chivas as first reinforcement for Apertura 2025
After days of negotiations, Chivas officially announced the signing of Efraín Álvarez, who joins from Club Tijuana as the first confirmed reinforcement for the upcoming Apertura 2025 season. The announcement came via social media with a highlight video showcasing the 22-year-old attacker’s best moments in a Xolos jersey.
The signing wasn’t cheap: Chivas reportedly paid around $8 million to acquire Álvarez, signaling the club’s firm commitment to strengthening its squad for a new competitive cycle. It’s worth noting that Álvarez has been a Chivas fan since childhood, a personal motivation that played a key role in finalizing the deal.
The Mexican-American forward signed a four-year contract, with an option to extend for one more year. The move marks a major bet by Guadalajara on young talent with national team experience and room to grow, both in Liga MX and beyond.
Born in Los Angeles to Mexican parents, Efraín Álvarez has already built a notable career at a young age. He began his professional journey with the LA Galaxy in 2019, where he played alongside global stars like Zlatan Ibrahimović. In 2023, he moved to Club Tijuana, making a strong impression in the Mexican league. Internationally, he was part of the Mexico U-17 team that finished runner-up in the 2019 World Cup, and has since earned appearances with the senior national team.
With his passion for the club, international experience, and offensive skill set, Álvarez now arrives in Guadalajara to take on a central role in the team’s rebuilding process.
