Official! Chelsea sign Marc Cucurella's replacement
The transfer saga at Stamford Bridge has finally reached its conclusion.
Details: Pep Chavarría has signed a contract with Chelsea after moving from Rayo Vallecano. Earlier, Fabrizio Romano reported that the London club had agreed to sign the 28-year-old left-back for a fixed fee of €19 million, with an additional €2 million in potential bonuses.
Negotiations between the clubs were anything but straightforward. Chelsea's initial official offer of €15 million was rejected, while Chavarría's contract with Rayo Vallecano included a €50 million release clause. In the end, both sides found common ground and completed the deal for significantly less than the buyout fee.
The Spanish defender will sign a long-term contract with the London side and becomes another reinforcement for Xabi Alonso's squad this summer.
Last season, Chavarría made 44 appearances for Rayo Vallecano across all competitions, scoring once and providing three assists. In La Liga, he featured in 33 matches, netted one goal, and delivered two assists; in the Copa del Rey, he played three games, and in the Europa Conference League, he made eight appearances and added one assist.
