Offended out of strong affection: fan apologizes to tennis player Destanee Aiava for insulting message
Tennis player Destanee Aiava recently had a minor clash on social media with one of her fans. A supporter posted an offensive comment on X, which was soon deleted.
The fan suggested that Aiava lose some weight to improve her performance. Aiava didn’t hold back, responding sarcastically by thanking him for giving her a reason to develop an eating disorder.
Surprisingly, the fan later not only deleted the hurtful post but also apologized to the athlete for his words.
"Hey Destanee. I was rooting for you only and I have been following your matches for the last 2-3 years. It was just out of concern and nothing else. I am extremely sorry if it did hurt you, love your game and you as a person," the fan wrote.
Aiava accepted the apology, and the conflict was fully resolved.
Tomorrow, Aiava is set to face Eva Lys in a match that will decide a spot in the main draw of the Australian Open. To date, she has never advanced beyond the first round of a Grand Slam tournament.
Currently ranked 198th in the WTA rankings, Destanee Aiava made history in 2017 when she received a wildcard to play in the Australian Open at just 16 years old. This made her the first tennis player born in the 21st century to compete in a Grand Slam tournament.
