Obstructed an anti-corruption investigation. Sri Lankan player banned for a year
Sri Lankan national team player Praveen Jayawickrama has been suspended from playing for one year.
Details: According to ESPNcricinfo, the suspension stems from Jayawickrama admitting to obstructing an anti-corruption investigation. As a result, the International Court found him guilty and issued a one-year ban. This prohibition applies to both international cricket and the Lankan Premier League (LPL).
Jayawickrama made his international debut in a match against Bangladesh in April 2021. He has played five Tests, five ODIs, and five T20Is. His last appearance for the Sri Lankan national team was in the T20I series against Australia in 2022.
Regarding his club career, in 2021, Jayawickrama was part of the Jaffna Kings team that won its second title. In the 2024 LPL, he played for Dambulla Sixers.
As a reminder: Indian cricket club owners have decided to enter the English market by purchasing one of the oldest clubs in the sport. The Delhi Capitals acquired a controlling stake in the English club Hampshire.
