Atlético Madrid's primary goalkeeper, Jan Oblak, is likely to leave the club during the current transfer window, prompting the Madrid club to actively seek his replacement.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Atlético has already initiated negotiations with PSV's first-choice goalkeeper, Walter Benítez. The Madrid club has offered Benítez a long-term contract, believing he can secure the starting goalkeeper position for the next several seasons.
Previously, Atlético was reported to be interested in Andriy Lunin from Real Madrid and Valencia’s goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili.
The 31-year-old Benítez joined PSV in the summer of 2022 from Nice. In the past Eredivisie season, he achieved 18 clean sheets in 33 matches, with his team confidently winning the Dutch championship.
In March this year, Benítez made his debut for the Argentine national team but did not receive a call-up for the 2024 Copa América.
