Obafemi Martins Recommends Seyi Tinubu as Next NFF President

Former Super Eagles striker Obafemi Martins has backed Seyi Tinubu, son of Nigerian President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, as a potential candidate to lead the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).

The call comes after a difficult period for Nigerian football. The Super Eagles failed to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, while the Super Falcons suffered a quarter-final exit at the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations.

Following the setbacks, Ibrahim Gusau resigned as NFF president last week, bringing his tenure to an end amid growing pressure on the federation.

Speaking on the Obi One Podcast alongside former Super Eagles captain John Obi Mikel, Martins was asked about the problems facing the NFF and what the federation needs going forward.

The former Inter Milan striker called for a younger leader who understands both football and the needs of Nigerians.

​”We just need someone that can help. A young person that understands the game, and the system that can help us,” Martins said.

​”I think Seyi Tinubu can do that too. He's young and understands what Nigerian people want. He can change that if he wants to.”
