Nwabali Faces New Challenge as Okoye Returns for World Cup Playoffs
Super Eagles head coach Eric Chelle has named a 24-man squad for Nigeria’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup playoff against Gabon, recalling five key players for the encounter in Rabat, Morocco.
The team will assemble in Morocco this weekend ahead of the decisive clash. Leading the attack are Victor Osimhen and reigning African Player of the Year Ademola Lookman, both expected to spearhead Nigeria’s push for qualification.
Chelle has also recalled goalkeeper Maduka Okoye, who returns to challenge Stanley Nwabali for the number-one spot. Other returning players include defenders Bright Osayi-Samuel and Chidozie Awaziem, midfielder Raphael Onyedika, and winger Chidera Ejuke, who missed the October international window.
The playoff will be played in Rabat, with either the 18,000-seat El-Barid Stadium or the 22,000-capacity Prince Moulay El Hassan Sports Complex set to host the match. The final is scheduled for the Stade Prince Heritier Moulay El Hassan.
