Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) side Wikki Tourists have been handed heavy sanctions following security breaches and crowd trouble during their Matchday 25 fixture against Katsina United on Sunday, February 8, 2026.

The Bauchi-based club was found guilty of violating the NPFL Framework and Rules after failing to provide adequate and effective security at the match. The lapse allowed unauthorized individuals to gain access to restricted areas, raising serious safety concerns. Also, the NPFL claims the club failed to control its fans, leading to harassment, injuries, and the loss of property, including the referee’s whistle. Officials and the visiting team were reportedly held hostage for several hours after the match, causing an 18-minute delay before play resumed.

Wikki Tourists have been fined a total of N7.5 million, broken down as follows:

  • N2 million for failing to provide adequate and effective security
  • N1.5 million covering compensatory and medical costs
  • N1 million for unsporting behaviour capable of bringing the game into disrepute
  • N1 million for throwing dangerous objects onto the pitch
  • N2 million for holding match officials and the away team hostage and causing a match delay
