NPFL: Rivers United Beat Plateau United 2-0 in Season Opener

Rivers United began their 2026/27 Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) campaign with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Plateau United at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium.

The Port Harcourt-based side made a fast start, taking the lead just six minutes into the match. Abdulrasheed Dabai finished from Chijioke Mbaoma’s assist to put Rivers United in front.

The hosts continued to control the game and doubled their advantage in the 38th minute through Wasiu Falolub, giving Rivers United a 2-0 lead going into the break.

Plateau United struggled to find a way back into the game after half-time, while Rivers United managed their advantage effectively.

Neither side could add to the score in the second half as Rivers United held on to secure all three points and make a winning start to the new NPFL season.
