The Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) has failed to make Africa’s top ten leagues in the latest rankings released by the International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS). The body, known for documenting football records and performance data, published its global league table on Friday, outlining domestic hierarchies across the continent.

No African league cracked the world’s top 15, with Egypt’s Premier League leading Africa in 16th place globally. Morocco ranked second on the continent, followed by South Africa, Algeria and Tunisia. Other leagues in the top ten include Tanzania, DR Congo, Mali, Angola and Ivory Coast. The IFFHS placed the NPFL 12th in Africa and 91st worldwide, reflecting concerns over organisation, match quality and poor continental results, with Nigerian clubs without a major African title in almost 20 years so far.
