NPFL: Finidi George Delighted as Rivers United Edge Kano Pillars in Hard Fought Win
Rivers United technical adviser Finidi George has expressed his satisfaction after his side secured a narrow but important 1-0 victory over Kano Pillars on Wednesday at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium in Port Harcourt.
The crucial win, a rescheduled Nigeria Premier League matchday 15 fixture, comes just days after the Pride of Rivers suffered a CAF Champions League setback against RS Berkane. According to Finidi, the result is exactly what the team needed to rebuild confidence.
Speaking after the match, Finidi admitted that his players were still dealing with the psychological impact of last Friday’s defeat.
“It was a difficult game, we knew from the onset. Coming from the defeat in Uyo affected the players a bit psychologically,” he said.
“In the first half, the players were a little bit sloppy, but in the second half they pushed to get the goal. Luckily for us, we scored and we are happy with the victory.”
With morale restored, Rivers United will shift focus to their next assignment, a trip to the Umuahia Township Stadium this Sunday, where they face Abia Warriors in a matchday 16 showdown.
