NPFL Fines Katsina United ₦9m, Bans Fans After Matchday 12 Chaos Nigeria Premier Football League

The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) has handed Katsina United a ₦9 million fine and ordered them to play their home matches behind closed doors following violent incidents during their Matchday 12 clash with Barau FC.

The NPFL Disciplinary Committee found the club guilty of several breaches of the league’s Framework and Rules, including security lapses, fan violence, and harassment of players and officials. The Committee said the sanctions were necessary to “protect the integrity of the league” and demonstrate its “zero tolerance for violence and unsafe match environments.”

Katsina United were fined ₦1 million for throwing objects onto the pitch, ₦1 million for failing to control their fans, and another ₦1 million for actions that brought the league into disrepute. The club was also fined ₦2 million for failing to provide adequate security.

In addition, Katsina United must pay ₦2 million compensation for the treatment of those injured in the incident, and another ₦2 million for damages to Barau FC’s buses and for holding the away team and officials hostage after the game.

This brings the total sanction to ₦9 million. The league also ordered Katsina United to relocate their home games to the Jos Stadium and play them without spectators until further notice.

The NPFL said the measures serve as a warning to all clubs that it will not tolerate unsafe environments or unprofessional conduct. Katsina United have 48 hours from the date of the notice to appeal the decision.

The ruling is one of the most decisive disciplinary actions of the 2025/26 NPFL season.
