NPFL Club Kun Khalifat FC Officially Put Up for Sale Ahead of 2026/27 Season

Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) club Kun Khalifat FC has officially been placed on the market, with the club's shareholders confirming that negotiations are underway to transfer majority ownership to a prospective buyer ahead of the 2026/27 season.

The development comes just weeks before the new NPFL campaign gets underway, raising uncertainty over the club's future as preparations for the season continue.

In a letter addressed to the Nigeria Premier Football League, Kun Khalifat FC President Amaefula Michael confirmed that the process of handing over the club to new investors is already in progress.

According to the statement published on the NPFL's official website, the club's leadership has requested that the league begin the necessary procedures for the ownership transition.

"On behalf of the shareholders of Kun Khalifat of Owerri, I hereby confirm that we are in the process of handing over the majority shares of the company to a prospective buyer."

"You will be duly informed when the process is concluded. Meanwhile, we appeal to you to commence the process of transfer of ownership to the prospective buyer," Amaefula Michael wrote.

However, reports indicate that if the takeover is not finalized before the league campaign begins, the new owners may not be permitted to change the club's name until a later date, in line with NPFL regulations.
