Novak Djokovic speaks out on how players feel about Sinner’s suspension
Tennis star Novak Djokovic has broken his silence on the doping scandal surrounding Jannik Sinner, sharing insights into how the issue is being perceived within the tour, Daily Mail reports.
“I spoke with several players in the locker room,' Djokovic said. 'Not only in the last few days but also in the previous months. Most of them are not satisfied with how the whole process has gone, and they don't think it's fair. Many of them believe there was favouritism,” Djokovic stated.
The Serbian also admitted that he personally finds WADA’s decision regarding Sinner unfair and inconsistent.
Sinner initially failed two doping tests in March last year, but the Tennis Integrity Unit later cleared him of any wrongdoing. WADA then appealed the decision, which meant the Italian had to face the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
However, instead of waiting for a ruling that could have come in April—potentially forcing him to miss Roland Garros and Wimbledon—Sinner reached a deal with WADA for a three-month suspension effective immediately, allowing him to return in time for the Grand Slam events.
The decision has sparked outrage among many in the tennis world, as it is seen as an unfair and preferential outcome.
