Nothing at Stake as Cruzeiro and Unión Bid Farewell in Belo Horizonte

Cruzeiro and Unión square off on Wednesday at 9:30 PM at the Mineirão in the final Group E fixture of the 2025 Copa Sudamericana. As reported by TyC Sports, both sides have already been eliminated and have no mathematical chance of reaching the playoffs, making this a match of pride rather than points.
Despite their continental exit, Cruzeiro come into the game in strong domestic form. The Brazilian side is unbeaten in its last eight matches across competitions, scoring 15 goals and conceding just three. They recently beat Fortaleza in the league and routed Vila Nova in the Copa do Brasil. However, their Sudamericana campaign has been underwhelming, with three losses, a draw, and only one win.
Unión, on the other hand, are mired in a difficult stretch. Under the returning Leonardo Madelón, the team has failed to find stability. Already knocked out of the Apertura, the Santa Fe club has gone eight games without a win — including five defeats — and hasn't claimed victory since early April. While the stakes are gone, Unión will look to exit the tournament with dignity before shifting focus to the next phase of the year.
