Not Jovic or Paradela: Liga MX Champion Jeremy Márquez Nearing Cruz Azul Move

Cruz Azul is reshaping its roster ahead of the Apertura 2025, and the club is now very close to landing one of Liga MX’s most promising midfielders. According to TUDN journalist Adrián Esparza Oteo, Jeremy Márquez, a two-time champion with Atlas, is on the verge of signing with the Cementeros.
With Alexis Gutiérrez set to join Club América, Cruz Azul has intensified negotiations with Márquez, whose contract with Atlas ends on June 30. Esparza Oteo reports that only a few minor details are missing before the deal becomes official. The midfielder is expected to be Larcamón’s first signing in this new chapter.
Interestingly, Márquez had also been linked to América, but the signing of Gutiérrez seemingly ended those chances, allowing Cruz Azul to swoop in. The move could spark criticism toward América’s sporting director, Santiago Baños, for letting a rival secure a player they had previously targeted.
Jeremy Márquez played a crucial role in Atlas’s back-to-back titles in 2021 and 2022. Known for his vision, ball control, and offensive creativity, the 24-year-old fits perfectly into Larcamón’s style of play. Though he missed out on Mexico’s final Gold Cup squad, a transfer to Cruz Azul could reignite his international prospects.
As the transfer window heats up, Cruz Azul looks poised to make a strong statement with this potential signing, signaling their intent to be title contenders again.
