ATP number one Novak Djokovic suffered a sensational defeat in the semifinals of the prestigious Monte-Carlo tennis tournament on dirt.

The match against Casper Ruud, who is ranked seventh in the ATP, lasted more than two hours. Ruud started the match with a break, which was enough to win the first set.

Djokovic won the second game without a chance for his opponent. At the end of the third set, Ruud had three consecutive match points. The Serb won the first two of them, but Novak made a double fault on the third.

This victory was the first for Casper Ruud in head-to-head matches over Novak Djokovic. Prior to that, the Serb had won five matches in a row since 2020.

Note that Novak Djokovic has yet to win a single title in 2024. The Serb has been eliminated at the Australian Open, Indian Wells and now Monte Carlo. Novak's last trophy remains a victory at the 2023 ATP 2023 ATP Finals in November.

In the final, Casper Ruud will face Stefanos Tsitsipas, who defeated the second seeded number two, Yannick Sinner, in an equally sensational semifinal. The match will take place on Sunday, April 14.

Novak Djokovic (Serbia, 1) - Casper Ruud (Norway, 10) 4:6, 6:1, 4:6
