No move to Barça? Nico Williams gets new number at Athletic Bilbao

Barcelona is not giving up on the transfer of Athletic Bilbao and Spanish national team star Nico Williams. To facilitate the move, club president Joan Laporta has personally taken charge of negotiations, rather than sporting director Deco.
However, today, Williams sent a significant signal indicating that his transfer to Barcelona is unlikely to happen this summer.
The 22-year-old officially announced today that he has been assigned the number 10 jersey at Athletic Bilbao for the new season. Spanish media believe this suggests Williams intends to stay at his hometown club for at least another season.
Before Nico Williams, the legendary Iker Muniain wore the number 10 jersey for Athletic since 2016, until he left the club this summer as a free agent.
It was also revealed today that Barcelona has identified three players as alternatives to Williams.
