No Alcohol or Recreational Drugs in Maradona’s System, Expert Testifies No Alcohol or Recreational Drugs in Maradona’s System, Expert Testifies

Diego Maradona had no traces of alcohol or recreational drugs in his body at the time of his death, a forensic biochemist testified Tuesday during the trial of seven healthcare professionals accused in the football legend’s death. The information was reported by AFP.

Ezequiel Ventosi, who analyzed samples from Maradona’s blood, urine, and swabs, said none tested positive for substances such as cocaine, marijuana, MDMA, ecstasy, or amphetamines. “There was no alcohol detected either,” he added. However, traces of antidepressants, antipsychotics, anticonvulsants, and anti-nausea medication were found.

The trial is taking place in San Isidro, near Buenos Aires, and the defendants are charged with “eventual intent homicide”—meaning they allegedly knew their actions could lead to death. During Tuesday’s session, the court also heard a 2021 statement from Maradona’s former physician, Alfredo Cahe, who claimed the home hospitalization was inappropriate and that the football icon needed intensive cardiac monitoring. He insisted that Maradona’s death was preventable with proper care.
