Ninth season in a row. Why are players taking to the pitch in Serie A round 12 with a red mark on their faces?
Serie A continues to raise awareness about an issue that remains deeply pressing in Italy. In every match of Serie A’s 12th round, players will take the field with a red mark on their cheeks. This is how the league supports the “Un Rosso alla Violenza” initiative—a campaign aimed at fighting both physical and psychological violence against women, as reported by Football Italia.
Serie A president Ezio Simonelli emphasized that the league remains firmly committed to opposing any form of abuse. According to him, the red mark on the faces of players and referees is not just a symbol, but a call to draw attention to a problem that is unacceptable in modern society.
It’s worth noting that this campaign is taking place for the ninth season in a row. According to statistics provided by Lega Serie A, around 7 million women in the country—almost one in three—have faced harassment or violence.
