Nine clubs want him! Tottenham enter crazy transfer battle for Mauro Icardi
A massive transfer battle is brewing around Mauro Icardi! The Argentine striker could be heading for another unexpected chapter in his career, with as many as nine clubs reportedly competing for his signature.
Details: According to CentreGoals, citing TyC Sports and Turkish reports, seven European clubs are interested in signing the 33 year old forward. The list includes Tottenham, Everton, Real Betis, Elche, Benfica, Beşiktaş and PAOK. Brazilian clubs Atlético Mineiro and São Paulo have also been mentioned as potential destinations. Icardi is available as a free agent after leaving Galatasaray in the summer of 2026. However, no official agreements or formal offers from the nine clubs have been confirmed.
Tottenham's presence among the contenders is particularly intriguing. The London club have struggled offensively this season and previously considered Icardi as an experienced solution. Everton could offer another route into the Premier League, a competition the Argentine has never played in.
The striker also has opportunities outside England. Real Betis and Elche could bring him back to Spanish football, while Benfica, PAOK and Beşiktaş offer different European projects. Meanwhile, Atlético Mineiro and São Paulo could tempt Icardi with a new challenge in Brazil.
Despite his age, Icardi remains a proven goalscorer. He scored 14 league goals in 31 appearances during his final Süper Lig season with Galatasaray. His experience with Inter Milan, Paris Saint-Germain and the Turkish giants makes him an attractive option for clubs seeking immediate attacking reinforcement.
It's worth noting that Icardi left Galatasaray after his contract expired in June 2026. His availability without a transfer fee could intensify interest, although his salary demands and preferred destination remain unclear. The reported nine club race is still at the speculation stage.
Reminder: From Istanbul idol to North London lifeline? Spurs enter the race for free agent Icardi.
