Nigeria’s Falconets Qualify for 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup After 3-2 Aggregate Win Over Malawi
The Nigeria U-20 women’s national football team has officially booked their place at the 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup after overcoming the Malawi women’s national under-20 football team with a 3-2 aggregate victory in a tightly contested qualifying tie.
The Falconets went into the second leg in Lilongwe holding a 2-0 advantage from the first meeting in Nigeria. However, the return leg at the Bingu National Stadium proved challenging as the hosts fought hard to overturn the deficit.
Faith Chimzimu gave Malawi hope with a brace, scoring in the 9th and 56th minutes to level the tie on aggregate and put serious pressure on the visitors. But Nigeria responded quickly, with Oscar Precious finding the back of the net in the 62nd minute to restore control for the Falconets and ultimately secure qualification.
Despite the 2-1 loss on the night, Nigeria’s strong first-leg performance proved decisive as they edged through 3-2 on aggregate.
