Nigeria Lead 3–1 at Halftime in Extra Time Against Gabon
Nigeria are in control at halftime of extra time, leading Gabon 3–1 in their 2026 World Cup qualifying play-off semi-final. After a tense 1–1 draw in normal time, the Super Eagles came alive in extra time with goals from substitute Chidera Ejuke and star striker Victor Osimhen.
Ejuke restored Nigeria’s lead in the 97th minute, calmly slotting home after a clever through ball from Wilfred Ndidi — his first goal for the national team. Just minutes later, Osimhen made amends for his earlier miss by finishing clinically from a tight angle after a powerful run by Benjamin Fredrick.
The match has been full of drama. Osimhen was booked for removing his face mask during his goal celebration, while third-choice goalkeeper Amas Obasogie also received a yellow card after running onto the pitch to return it.
Nigeria’s composure and attacking precision have left Gabon with a mountain to climb heading into the final 15 minutes. The winners will face either Cameroon or DR Congo in Sunday’s CAF play-off final, with a spot in the intercontinental play-off at stake.
