Nicolas Pépé reveals what convinced him to stay with the Elephants

The Villarreal striker has finally decided to continue his career with the Ivory Coast national team after a period of uncertainty.

Whilst he had left his international future in doubt, Nicolas Pépé has explained the reasons that convinced him to continue wearing the Elephants’ shirt. The Ivorian international admitted to having been uncertain about his future with the Ivorian national team.

This situation finally changed following a discussion with manager Hervé Renard. This conversation played an important role in Nicolas Pépé’s decision.

The Elephants’ manager’s expectations and the role he wishes to give him helped to change his mind, according to the player’s explanation.

“It’s true that I had left some doubt hanging over my future with Côte d’Ivoire, but I had a conversation with the manager. He explained to me what he wanted and expected of me. I think that’s what tipped the balance in favour of me continuing.”

Nicolas Pépé is part of Hervé Renard’s squad, which is currently competing in the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
