Nicolas Pépé Breaks Silence on Shock AFCON 2025 Snub
Nicolas Pépé has spoken publicly after his unexpected exclusion from the Ivory Coast’s squad for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, expressing both disappointment and support for his teammates.
Head coach Emerse Faé announced the squad on 9 December, confirming that the Villarreal winger, previously seen as an important part of the Elephants’ attack, would not be travelling to Morocco for the tournament. The news came as a surprise to many fans who expected Pépé to feature in the competition.
Pépé reacted through a heartfelt Instagram post, revealing how difficult the decision has been for him.
“Double blow for me. That’s football, that’s life. Thank you to LaLiga, to my club Villarreal CF, and to everyone who has supported me after these past few days of harassment and racism. Good luck to my teammates,” he wrote.
