Nicolás Lodeiro is on the verge of a long-anticipated return to Nacional. The Uruguayan midfielder, a former Boca Juniors standout and MLS veteran, is in advanced talks to rejoin the club where he began his professional career. A key meeting is set to determine whether the move becomes official in the coming days.

Currently, under contract with Houston Dynamo until December 31, Lodeiro has a clause allowing him to enter negotiations if Nacional reached out — and that’s exactly what happened. His personal desire to return to Montevideo has made the potential reunion more than just a possibility.

Coach Pablo Peirano has already given his approval, and Nacional vice president Flavio Perchman is expected to meet today with the player's agent, Gerardo Cano, to finalize the terms.

Despite being 36, Lodeiro remains active and effective. He has played 15 matches for Houston this season and tallied 61 appearances across the last two MLS campaigns, contributing two goals and nine assists, along with a steady rate of key passes per game.

If completed, the move would bring back a fan favorite with deep roots at the club, offering leadership and creativity to Nacional’s midfield.
