The 22-year-old footballer is considering a move to Barcelona or continuing his career with Athletic Club, while Paris Saint-Germain is also actively pursuing him as a potential successor to Kylian Mbappé.
The situation could go either way. Despite Barcelona's confidence in finalizing the deal, it is possible that Williams may remain in Bilbao for at least another season.
Athletic Club is the team where Williams has played since childhood alongside his brother Inaki. These ties could be crucial, as Sport reports that Nico has promised his older brother that they will play together in Europe for at least one season.
If the promise is fulfilled, Williams will stay at San Mamés. Athletic Club will then try to offer him a new contract, increasing the release clause, which is currently set at €58 million.
