On Thursday, November 16, the first match of the NHL Global Series took place in the National Hockey League. Ottawa and Detroit faced off in Sweden.

In the first period, Ottawa took a 3-0 lead. Brady Tkachuk scored a brace, and defenseman Jake Sanderson also found the back of the net.
However, in the second period, Detroit staged a remarkable comeback. Initially, Ottawa scored the fourth goal and seemed to have the game in control, but the Red Wings had other plans. In a span of ten minutes, Detroit netted four goals, leveling the score in the second period.
In the final 20 minutes, both teams showed more caution, and the pace of the game slightly subdued. Fans anticipated a five-minute overtime period in a 3-on-3 format.
Detroit had more attacking opportunities and seemed poised for victory, but with just two seconds remaining in overtime, Ottawa initiated an offensive play. Thanks to Tim Stutzle's goal, they clinched the victory. The Senators triumphed over the Red Wings in overtime with a score of 5:4.
