NFL star Jermaine Burton accused of assaulting woman
Cincinnati Bengals player Jermaine Burton has been accused of assaulting a woman on New Year’s Eve, reports TMZ. The 19-year-old woman, who had been dating Burton since September, called the police to report the alleged attack.
According to her statement, the couple had an argument that escalated into violence. She claimed Burton tried to strangle her, blocked the door to prevent her from entering his apartment, and later chased her inside. He reportedly took her phone and smashed it.
The situation worsened when Burton allegedly grabbed a knife from the dishwasher, held it to his neck, and threatened to take his own life.
“He said he was going to kill himself. He’s a narcissist. He’s a manipulator. Quite abusive. Pretty abusive. He does a lot of things that I don't tolerate,” the woman told 911.
She also stated that this was not the first instance of abuse by Burton.
Initially, the victim intended to press charges but later changed her mind.
The Cincinnati Bengals acknowledged being aware of the incident but have declined to comment further at this time.
Adding to Burton’s troubles, he reportedly faces eviction from his residence due to overdue rent payments.
