NFF President Sets Clear Target for Eric Chelle Ahead of 2025 AFCON
The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Alhaji Ibrahim Musa Gusau, has openly stated the federation’s expectations for Super Eagles head coach Eric Sékou Chelle ahead of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) scheduled to take place in Morocco.
In an interview on Eagles FM Radio, Gusau confirmed that the NFF has given the France-born coach a straightforward mandate for the continental tournament.
According to him, Chelle is expected to guide the Super Eagles to the final of the 2025 AFCON, after which the federation will thoroughly review his performance.
“The mandate given to Eric Chelle is to reach the AFCON final,” Gusau said.
The NFF president also reaffirmed his stance on allowing coaches full control of team affairs, noting that he does not interfere with player selection or team operations.
“I will never instruct a coach on which players to invite. Since becoming NFF president, I have never stayed in the same hotel with the national team because I do not want to be a distraction,” he explained.
Nigeria will compete in Group C of the tournament, where they are set to face Tanzania, Tunisia, and Uganda in the race for qualification to the knockout stage.
