NFF President Ibrahim Gusau and Board Members Reportedly Resign After Super Falcons World Cup Failure

The President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau, and several other board members have reportedly resigned following the Super Falcons' failure to qualify for the FIFA Women's World Cup for the first time.

Former Super Eagles media officer Obong Colin on Thursday reported that Gusau and other board members have stepped down.

The NFF board had been under growing pressure over the management of funds released by the federal government for the national teams. The pressure further increased after the Super Falcons failed to qualify for the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup in Brazil.

The Super Falcons lost 1-0 to Cameroon in the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations before a 2-1 defeat to South Africa in the World Cup play-off ended their qualification hopes. Following the defeat, the NFF subsequently sacked Super Falcons coach Justin Madugu.

The Super Eagles had also missed the 2026 FIFA World Cup after losing to the Democratic Republic of Congo on penalties in the African play-off.
