NFF President Explains Why Super Eagles Missed 2025 AFCON Medal Ceremony NFF President Explains Why Super Eagles Missed 2025 AFCON Medal Ceremony

Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President Ibrahim Gusau has clarified why the Super Eagles players were absent from the medal ceremony after their third-place finish at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

The team, led by coach Eric Chelle, defeated Egypt 4-2 in a tense penalty shootout on Saturday to claim third place in the tournament.

Gusau revealed that the players were unable to attend the medal ceremony due to club commitments that required them to return immediately after the match.

Gusau said, “The players couldn’t wait to get their medals on Sunday.

“He said their clubs were eager to have them return after Saturday’s game.

“I have the medals with me.

“The same thing happened with Egypt too. If the medal ceremony was on the day of the match, they would have gotten theirs as well.
