NFF Confident FIFA Will Decide on DR Congo Eligibility Case
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) says it remains hopeful that FIFA will rule in its favour over a petition challenging DR Congo’s use of allegedly ineligible players in November’s World Cup play-off final.
Nigeria’s 2026 World Cup hopes suffered a major setback after the Super Eagles lost on penalties to DR Congo at the Moulay Hassan Stadium. Weeks later, the NFF confirmed it had lodged a formal complaint with FIFA, claiming the Congolese side breached eligibility rules.
FIFA has not yet issued a decision, prompting criticism from figures such as Sunday Oliseh, who questioned the administrative approach.
However, NFF General Secretary Dr Sanusi Mohammed insisted the case is strong.
“We have a good case… We don’t venture into what we know is an exercise in futility,” he said.
Sanusi added: “As far as we are concerned… we are waiting for what FIFA will say…”
If upheld, Nigeria could be reinstated.
