Newcastle United have confirmed Yoane Wissa's absence against Cameroon

Newcastle United have reacted to the absence of their striker Yoane Wissa for the upcoming international matches against Cameroon. They confirmed Yoane Wissa's absence for this crucial match. Manager Eddie Howe explained the reasons for this situation.

Signed for £55 million, Wissa is suffering from a posterior cruciate ligament injury. This injury, sustained during a match for the DRC against Senegal, has kept him off the pitch since May 2025. His absence is being felt, but the club has been able to rely on the good form of Nick Woltemade.

According to Eddie Howe, Wissa's return remains uncertain. Although he is working hard to regain his fitness, he is not yet ready to resume training with the group. Howe emphasized that he has no specific timeline for the striker's return to the team.

However, Wissa had to decline his call-up for the 2026 World Cup playoffs, where DR Congo will face Cameroon. This situation raises concerns about his long-term fitness.
