Newcastle to build a new stadium near current ground
English clubs have been actively renovating their stadiums in recent years. West Ham and Tottenham have already moved to new arenas, Everton is set to follow soon, and now Newcastle is considering a major redevelopment of its home ground.
Details: According to The Telegraph, Newcastle’s new stadium will partially be built on the site of the current St. James’ Park. This is the proposal that the club’s management plans to present to its Saudi owners.
The new stadium is expected to have a capacity of approximately 70,000 fans, with construction costs estimated at £1.2 billion. However, a final decision has yet to be made, as another option remains on the table—expanding the existing Gallowgate Stand. This expansion would extend onto the road and take up a significant portion of the St. James’ Park metro station area.
Reminder: Manchester United also has plans to rebuild Old Trafford, though it is increasingly likely that the Red Devils will eventually move to a brand-new stadium.
